Asus EEE PC Netbooks
The more experienced of us may remember a time when there was essentially nothing that could be considered a portable computer besides perhaps an expensive pocket calculator. For the last couple of decades, various hardware manufacturers have been trying to fill this vacuum with devices of all shapes and sizes. As technological progress has continued along, the portability, functionality, and overall appeal of these devices has increased drastically. What would have been considered very respectable but basic desktop computer carrying a significant cost a few years ago can now be purchased for a fraction of the price and carried around almost anywhere.
Up to a fairly recent point, there hasn’t been the technological ability to provide users with a portable, yet complete computing experience; users only had the option to use things like PDAs with their tiny screens and even tinier keyboards. Asus netbooks were the first to take advantage of the new processes and types of hardware available; when put together in the right configuration result in a small laptop-style computer which is affordable, fairly powerful, and definitely capable.

Asus offered their first version of their netbook, which was given the Eee PC branding, in late 2007. It had a screen about 7 inches across, was capable of running Windows or Linux “out of the box,” And offered no shortage of data or media connectivity ports. Later versions offered different storage options and larger screens at roughly 9 and 10 inches, as well as other upgrades as well. Their largest netbooks use a keyboard that is 92% of the size of a full-sized laptop computer, for added ergonomic benefits. Of course, the larger versions are more expensive and less portable, but the range of sizes provided are there to satisfy a range of customer needs.
To date, Asus netbooks continue to be among the strongest selling models in the newly filled niche. Support is especially strong among Linux users, as Asus has spend a significant amount of effort to make their platform Linux-friendly. Asus continues to explore and create products that innovate and inspire; their ultra-portable, low-power attitude has moved to the desktop market with the “Eee Box.” Look forward to more unique offerings from them in the future.
